The Forestry Commission has clarified reports surrounding the interdiction of personnel involved in a timber under-invoicing case, emphasizing that two staff members who generated GHC623,000 for the state were not suspended.

The situation arose after a truck, registration AS 3990-25, transporting sawn lumber allegedly auctioned by the Mim TIDD office, was intercepted at the Techimantia Checkpoint by the National Timber Monitoring Team on October 29, 2025. The vehicle was en route to Garu in the Upper East Region.

Upon inspection, officials discovered discrepancies between the number and dimensions of the lumber and the accompanying documentation. The 3,026 pieces of lumber on board had a standard value of GHC76,650, yet the invoice issued by Mim TIDD staff indicated only GHC25,000, significantly under-reporting the shipment’s true value. Additionally, over 800 pieces had dimensions that did not match the paperwork, violating directives aimed at curbing collusion between officers and timber cartels.

The Commission confirmed that the interdiction of certain staff members was intended to facilitate a thorough investigation by a six-member committee. However, it stressed that Felix Gatiba, Ahafo Area Manager, and Eric Boamah, an Inspector, were not involved in wrongdoing, as their actions generated substantial revenue for the state.

In highlighting staff contributions, the Forestry Commission noted that it celebrates exceptional performance through its annual End-of-Year Staff Recognition Awards, underscoring the importance of rewarding employees who contribute meaningfully to revenue generation and operational integrity.
