English football is rallying behind Billy Vigar, the 21-year-old forward who came through Arsenal’s academy, after he sustained a severe brain injury during a match for Chichester City.
The incident occurred during their Isthmian League Premier Division clash against Wingate & Finchley, just 13 minutes into the game, which was subsequently abandoned.
Vigar was immediately hospitalized and placed into an induced coma, receiving intensive care. Chichester City confirmed the seriousness of the injury but stated it is too early to predict his recovery, noting that even under the best circumstances, the path ahead will be long.
Having joined Arsenal’s academy at 14, Vigar progressed through the under-18s and under-21s, spending time on loan at Derby County and Eastbourne Borough before leaving Arsenal in 2024.
He initially joined Hastings United and had made four appearances this season for Chichester City, scoring once.
Arsenal has publicly extended their support, wishing Vigar a full recovery and sending thoughts to his family during this difficult time.
