Police have taken four individuals into custody in connection with the murder of Nana Owusu Korkor, the destooled Akwamuhene of Tanoso in the Ahafo Region. The arrests occurred between Monday, November 11, and Tuesday, November 12, 2025.
The suspects—Issifu Addae (aka Akwasi Addae), 48; Stephen Gyamfi, 55; Augustine Arhinful, 42; and Martha Mansah, 65—are assisting authorities with investigations but have denied any involvement in the killing.
Initial findings suggest that the murder stems from a long-standing chieftaincy dispute. Nana Owusu Korkor had been removed from his position as Akwamuhene and replaced by Nana Akyeampong Duodu. The late chief had challenged his destoolment in court and was embroiled in ongoing legal battles with the royal family.
Investigators also found that Nana Owusu Korkor faced accusations of misappropriating five gold bars belonging to the family and selling family land without authorization following his removal. Reports indicate that suspects, including Issifu and Stephen, visited the disputed land to halt development work, seizing a block-moulding machine and allegedly threatening to “teach the deceased a lesson.”
Authorities are now exploring whether Nana Akyeampong Duodu, currently in the United States, may have had a role in orchestrating the crime to eliminate his predecessor as an obstacle to his chieftaincy.
Police investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
