A tragic accident at Wakrom Junction, near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway, claimed four lives and left 12 others injured on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The collision happened around 2:45 p.m. when a DAF truck loaded with 700 bags of rice, registered AW 9548-13, crashed into a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle with registration number GC 9728-21. A total of 17 people were caught in the incident.
According to officials, nine of the victims had already been rescued and rushed to hospital before the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene. The GNFS later extricated five more passengers from the wreckage. Sadly, four were confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital, while one victim remains in critical condition.
The driver and mate of the rice truck escaped unharmed. Meanwhile, rescue teams continued working late into the day to free one more person who was trapped in the mangled vehicle.
The accident brought traffic to a standstill on the busy highway as emergency workers cleared the area. Authorities have since advised motorists to remain cautious when driving along the Cape Coast–Accra stretch, which has become a frequent hotspot for crashes.
