The Ghana Police Service has arrested four suspected members of a carjacking gang linked to the robbery and killing of a man at Ohwim-Amanfrom in Kumasi in February 2026.

According to the Ashanti Region Police Command, the arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation ordered by the Inspector General of Police after the murder of Mr. Andrews Amankwah on February 10.

Between February 18 and 22, police picked up four suspects in separate operations across Kumasi. Investigators say the men are believed to be members of a dangerous carjacking group known as the “Duku Syndicate,” which targeted vehicles after monitoring their victims.

Police also confirmed that the alleged leader of the group, Eric Antwi Duku, was shot during an operation and later died at the hospital.

Items retrieved from the suspects include a pistol with ammunition, a tracking device, forged vehicle documents, and a Toyota Corolla believed to have been used by the gang.

Preliminary investigations suggest the syndicate specialized in stealing high-value vehicles such as Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser models and may be connected to other violent robberies in Kumasi, Tarkwa, and nearby communities.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be put before court soon, while efforts continue to track down other accomplices.

Police say they remain committed to dismantling criminal networks and have urged the public to continue supporting investigations by providing credible information.
