The Ghana Grid Company Limited has reported a major fault at the Ghana Gas processing plant following a complete failure of the Burner Management System (BMS) controller for the Heat Medium System (HMS).
Preliminary assessments indicate that the affected system is damaged and will require a full replacement, the company said in a statement.
“This unforeseen development has necessitated an emergency shutdown of the plant, leading to a temporary curtailment of gas supply to thermal power plants,” it said, citing it as the cause of power supply disruptions in some parts of the country.
It furthered that a comprehensive technical and safety risk assessment is currently underway to determine the most effective and secure pathway for restoring operations in the shortest possible time.
In addition, it said a dedicated team of engineers is working diligently, around the clock, to replace the damaged system and expedite the restoration process.
“Subject to the outcome of ongoing assessments, Ghana Gas will commence processes to restore operations within the course of today. We will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves.”
It added, “The public is kindly urged to bear with us during this period of disruption. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”
