A newly issued record from the Volta Region House of Chiefs has clarified the status of traditional authority in the Ketu North Municipality, particularly concerning the Weta Traditional Area.

The document, formally released on October 22, 2025, and signed by Mohammed Ikililu, Registrar of the House of Chiefs, was referenced in response to renewed debates over the rightful custodian of the Weta stool. These disputes recently resurfaced after remarks from the Volta Region representative on the Council of State, Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, who urged the contesting sides to resort to the courts.

In the updated register of paramount chiefs under Ketu North jurisdiction, the name of Torgbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI — also known privately as Nelson Kofi Gllago — appears as the officially recognized Paramount Chief of the Weta Traditional Area.

This inclusion indicates that his title has successfully gone through the necessary traditional and legal procedures required for gazettement, affirming his standing within the regional chieftaincy framework.

The publication is expected to influence how authorities and local stakeholders engage with leadership matters in Weta, particularly as disagreements over succession and legitimacy have lingered in the area.
