Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has decorated four individuals who have played influential roles in deepening Ghana-Germany cooperation. The recognition was given on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the German Ambassador’s residence in Accra as part of the president’s official visit to Ghana.
The recipients included three Ghanaians and one German whose work has significantly improved social development, academic exchange, and cooperation between the two nations. Each honouree received the Federal Cross of Merit — one of Germany’s most prestigious national honours.
Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a trailblazing cardiothoracic surgeon and former Minister for Environment, was celebrated for decades of service in healthcare advancement and his role in forging strong medical partnerships involving Germany.
Dr. Ralph Nyadu-Addo, a champion of educational collaboration, was acknowledged for his leadership in establishing key academic institutions that promote German studies and provide access to opportunities for Ghanaian students abroad.
Former German international footballer Gerald Asamoah was recognised for philanthropic initiatives supporting children born with heart conditions, as well as his efforts in fostering cultural unity between the two countries.
Also honoured was Martin Wilde, a long-serving development advocate whose work in technical and vocational training has impacted countless Ghanaian youth. His association with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung helped shape a number of capacity-building programmes in the country.
President Steinmeier’s presentation highlighted the long-standing relationship between Ghana and Germany and the ongoing role of individuals who drive progress through cooperation.
