The Ghana Education Service (GES) has concluded its investigation into a viral video of a feeding incident at Savelugu Senior High School, describing it as an isolated lapse in supervision rather than a systemic failure.

The probe, launched after the footage sparked public outrage in January, clarified that while students were served incomplete meals, the situation was worsened by the presence of a political gathering on school grounds.

According to the GES report, students were scheduled to receive jollof rice with eggs for supper.

However, the supplier failed to deliver the eggs on time. Instead of sourcing an immediate alternative, school authorities served the rice plain, promising students “double protein” at a later date to compensate.

GES management condemned this decision, labelling it as “unacceptable,” and stressing that leadership should have explored other local alternatives to ensure a balanced meal.

The investigation further revealed that the dining hall had been booked for a New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency event on the same day.

A participant at the event reportedly exploited the administrative lapse to film the students’ meals and circulate the video on social media.

The headmaster was absent from campus during the incident, although the GES noted his absence was officially approved by the Municipal Director.

To prevent a recurrence, the GES announced that the Municipal Director of Education has been temporarily tasked with personally supervising all feeding arrangements at Savelugu SHS.

The Service also confirmed that “necessary disciplinary action” has been taken against those responsible for the lack of supervision.

Management reiterated that providing quality meals remains a top priority and emphasized that this incident does not reflect the school’s standard operating procedures.
