The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has raised alarm over a mounting injury crisis within the Ghana national football team as preparations intensify ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The situation has been compounded by the confirmed absence of key defender Mohammed Salisu, who has been ruled out of the tournament through injury.

In addition, influential midfielder Mohammed Kudus remains a major doubt, with reports indicating he is set to undergo surgery that could keep him sidelined for a significant period.

The potential loss of both players represents a major setback for the technical team, given their importance to the squad’s defensive stability and midfield creativity.

Their absence could force adjustments to the team’s tactical approach as the World Cup draws closer, with the Black Stars drawn in Group L alongside, Panama, England and Croatia.

Despite the concerns, Mr Simeon- Okraku remains cautiously optimistic, expressing confidence in the resilience and unity of the Ghanaian people.

He acknowledged the seriousness of the injury situation but stressed that Ghana has a long-standing tradition of rising to the occasion in difficult circumstances.

“When I look at the list, it is quite worrying. However, I derive my positivity from the indomitable spirit of the Ghanaian, which always emerges when the chips are down,” he said
on the sideline of the FIFA Congress in Toronto, Canada, where football administrators from across the globe gathered to discuss key issues affecting the game.

He further pointed to the renewed sense of unity within the country following the appointment of new head coach Carlos Queiroz.

According to the GFA president, the coach’s arrival has injected fresh energy into the team and galvanised support among fans and stakeholders.

“I believe that the unity of purpose demonstrated by the nation following Coach Carlos Queiroz’s arrival will arouse extra energy in everyone—from the players to the 12th man.

Together, we will find the right level of energy to be competitive,” he added.
