A tragic stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra claimed the lives of six people during the military recruitment exercise on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. The disaster unfolded as thousands of applicants surged toward the stadium gates ahead of the scheduled start, breaching security protocols in the rush to enter.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the sudden crowd surge triggered the fatal stampede around 6:20 a.m., before the recruitment process officially began. In addition to the six fatalities, numerous recruits sustained injuries and were immediately transported to the 37 Military Hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities confirmed that medical teams are working around the clock to stabilise the injured, while families of the deceased are being contacted and offered support. The Ghana Armed Forces expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and reassured the public that efforts are underway to manage the aftermath of the incident.

The tragic event highlights the need for stricter crowd management and safety measures during large-scale recruitment exercises, as thousands of hopeful applicants gathered in what was meant to be a controlled screening environment.
