Data from the Chinese Embassy in Ghana shows that bilateral trade between the two countries has surpassed $14.1 billion mark.

The $14.1b recorded is a year-on-year growth of more than 19.3% and a record high in economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Li Yang, made the data known when giving remarks during the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival Gala held in Accra.

According to Yang, the milestone chalked by the two countries reflects the growing strength of the China–Ghana Strategic Partnership and the expanding scope of economic cooperation.

He noted that the steady increase in trade demonstrates the deepening political trust and practical collaboration across various sectors.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana highlighted that China and Ghana had seen steady progress in bilateral relations over the past year, including stronger engagement in trade, education, industrial development, and cultural exchanges.

“China-Ghana political mutual trust has been continuously deepened, practical cooperation further consolidated, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges have flourished,” he said.

He noted that Chinese enterprises in Ghana had expanded operations, launched new production lines, and increased investments in sectors supporting Ghana’s industrialisation and economic transformation, contributing to job creation, skills transfer, and the growth of local industries.

Initiatives in education and technology, such as the handover of the China-Ghana Friendship Smart Classroom project, have also strengthened digital learning and knowledge exchange between the two countries.

Mr. Yang further emphasised China’s broader commitment to African cooperation, including zero-tariff treatment for 53 African countries starting May 1, 2026, which he said would expand market access for African exports to China and create new trade and development opportunities.

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi, who was the Special Guest at the event, commended the Chinese Community for investments that have created jobs and supported sectors such as manufacturing, retail, hospitality, and mining.

Mr. Brogya Genfi charged members of the Chinese Community to respect and adhere to Ghanaian laws, which he said are essential to sustaining the partnership.

He expressed optimism that the combination of expanding trade, investment, and cultural exchange would continue to strengthen the long-standing friendship between Ghana and China.

The Lantern Festival, which marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations, featured colourful cultural performances by the Anhui Performing Arts Group, traditional music, and artistic displays that showcased Chinese heritage. It also symbolised reunion, prosperity, and hope

The event brought together members of the Chinese community, Ghanaian officials, diplomats, and business leaders to celebrate the traditional festival and highlight growing relations between the two nations.
