The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has established dedicated emergency contact numbers for Ghanaian nationals in South Africa in response to the ongoing anti-foreigner incidents reported in parts of the country.
In a public advisory, the Mission said the lines have been set up to provide immediate assistance and support to Ghanaians affected by the situation or requiring urgent help.
The High Commission urged all Ghanaian nationals to use the numbers to report any incidents of harassment, violence, or threats, adding that general enquiries may also be directed to the same lines.
The Mission further called on members of the Ghanaian community to share the information widely within their networks to ensure it reaches as many people as possible.
“If you or someone you know needs assistance, please do not hesitate to call,” the statement said. “Together, let’s look out for one another.”
The move comes as South Africa experiences a wave of anti-immigration protests, particularly in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, raising concerns about the safety of foreign nationals.
The High Commission has previously advised Ghanaians to exercise heightened caution and avoid protest areas.
The Mission said it remains on alert and will continue to monitor developments while working to ensure the safety and welfare of Ghanaians in South Africa.
The following numbers are now available for reporting incidents and making general enquiries: +27 72 514 5476, +27 72 614 3856, +27 72 415 3373, +27 76 771 8726, +27 71 985 8042.
