The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, is leading Ghana’s official delegation to the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9th to 19th March 2026.

According to a Facebook post shared by the Ministry on Monday, March 9, the Commission on the Status of Women serves as the United Nations’ primary global intergovernmental platform dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women.

This year, CSW70 is focusing on the theme: “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices, and addressing structural barriers.”

The session convenes Member States, UN agencies, and Civil Society Organisations to assess progress, tackle emerging challenges, and advance global commitments to gender equality.

Ghana’s delegation includes technical officials from relevant Ministries, Members of Parliament, representatives from the Office of the President, academia, and key stakeholders from NGOs and Civil Society Organisations working in the areas of gender equality, social protection, and child welfare.

During the session, Dr. Lartey will deliver three official statements on behalf of Ghana, addressing the Opening Dialogue Segment, a Ministerial Roundtable Discussion, and a High-Level Meeting.

She is also scheduled to participate in several side events and bilateral discussions with international partners.

These engagements offer Ghana the platform to highlight national progress, share experiences, and reaffirm its commitment to advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls.

Through this international engagement, Ghana aims to contribute to global policy dialogue, exchange best practices, and further align national strategies with global standards on women’s empowerment and social protection.
