The Student Workforce Innovation Movement (SWIM) has appointed a new agritech innovator, Evans Kyere-Mensah, as its Global Agritech and Climate Innovation Advisor to support the development of youth workforce pathways in agriculture, climate resilience and food systems innovation.

This is to strengthen the organisation’s global workforce innovation agenda through agritech education, climate-smart agriculture training and strategic partnerships.

This is aimed at preparing students for opportunities in emerging sectors within the global economy.

Expanding opportunities

In a statement signed by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SWIM, Louv Afua Amoakowaa Ford, the organisation said the appointment formed part of broader efforts to expand opportunities for students through workforce innovation, entrepreneurship and international collaboration.

The statement said Mr Kyere-Mensah would provide strategic guidance on SWIM’s expanding portfolio of agritech education initiatives, university partnerships and innovation programmes

designed to equip students with the skills and networks required for emerging opportunities in agriculture and climate innovation.

It explained that Mr Kyere-Mensah brought experience in agribusiness development, youth empowerment, agricultural value chain innovation and climate-smart agriculture initiatives across Africa and international development networks.

According to the statement, his appointment comes at a time when countries and institutions were increasing investments in sustainable agriculture, food security and climate resilience as part of efforts to address youth unemployment and global economic challenges.

Initiatives

The statement said Mr Kyere-Mensah would support the development of agritech education and certification programmes, in collaboration with accredited universities and other educational institutions.

He is also expected to contribute to the expansion of climate-smart agriculture training and workforce development initiatives aimed at preparing young people for careers in agriculture, agribusiness and climate innovation.

In addition, the statement said he would help facilitate partnerships with agricultural institutions, agribusiness companies and international development organisations to support innovation, job creation and entrepreneurship.

It added that he would contribute to the creation of innovation pilot programmes and student-led agritech entrepreneurship initiatives to encourage practical learning and enterprise development among students and young professionals.

The statement described SWIM as a global initiative dedicated to connecting students, universities, industry leaders, governments and development organisations to create workforce pathways and innovation ecosystems for the next generation.
