One of Ghana and Africa’s leading and most decorated Ensembles, the Harmonious Chorale -Ghana, has announced an exciting calendar of activities for the year 2026, marking a period of musical excellence, international representation, spiritual ministry and a major milestone in the choir’s history.

It said this year’s events on the calendar were a reflection of its commitment to excellent service and the promotion of choral music both locally and internationally.

In a statement by the Founder and Executive Director, James Varrick Armaah (PhD), on the general outlook of the choir’s year, he assured patrons of music and the general populace that the choir remained very focused on its mission to promote Ghanaian and African choral and Western classical music, while touching lives through their performances.

Itinerary

The choir will kickstart the year this month  when it celebrates its Executive Chairperson, Rev. Dr Joyce Rosalind Aryee, on her 80th birthday.

Dr Varrick Armaah (PhD) said the choir was organising a grand musical concert in honour of Dr Aryee, explaining that the event would provide an opportunity to celebrate her life, service and enduring impact on the choir and the wider choral music fraternity through carefully curated performances — a standard of excellence she held dear.

Then in May, the choir will represent the nation and Africa on the global stage at the International Festival of Orthodox Church Music, a competitive choral festival to be held in Bialystok, Poland.

This competition is expected to bring together professional and semi-professional choirs from around the world, carefully selected at the invitation of the Orthodox Church music foundation in Poland, offering an opportunity to showcase Ghanaian choral artistry and cultural excellence.

The international assignments continue in August 2026, when the choir participates in the World Choir Games 2026 in Sweden.

This globally acclaimed event is one of the largest choral competitions in the world, and the choir being confirmed as participants in the champions categories clearly reflects its commitment to artistic growth, excellence and the capacity to show a strong ability for cultural exchanges.

The choir participated in the World Choir Games when it was hosted in

South Africa in 2018 and won gold in all the categories competed in and was eventually crowned ‘Champion of the World Choir Games’ category C-28, a newly created category in the games.

In October 2026, the Harmonious Chorale-Ghana will host a grand concert in Kumasi, which will also serve as the official launch of the choir’s 20th Anniversary Celebrations.

This landmark event will commemorate two decades of musical ministry, performance and impact, bringing together patrons, music lovers and stakeholders from across the country and globe.

The choir will conclude its year in December 2026 with the highly anticipated Christmas Sing Along 4, continuing the choir’s tradition of festive worship, community engagements and joyful celebration of the Christmas season through music.

Commitment to excellence

The Chairman of the Board of Governors of the choir, Dr George Agyekum Donkor, said: “This year 2026 represents a defining chapter in the journey of The Harmonious Chorale-Ghana.

“From celebrating distinguished lives and service through music, to competing on global stages and marking the beginning of our 20th anniversary, each activity reflects our commitment to excellence, ministry and cultural representation.

We are excited to share Ghana’s choral voice with the world while deepening our impact at home,” Dr Donkor stated.

He also indicated that apart from the major events, the Harmonious Chorale-Ghana will also undertake a couple of campus ministry engagements, reaffirming its dedication to nurturing faith, inspiring young people and using music as a tool for spiritual formation and outreach.
