The Royal Family of the Yilo Traditional area, led by the Paramount Queenmother, Maa Naana Korlekuor Adjado III, has presented a number of items, including bags of rice, cooking oil, soaps, crates of eggs, assorted drinks, bags of purified water, onions and sardine among others, and an undisclosed amount of money to Hour of Grace Children’s Orphanage at Apersua near Nkrukan in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region.

The visit and the donation were aimed at acquainting themselves with the orphanage, which is located in the traditional area and to know their challenges and assist as and when necessary.

The Hour of Grace Children’s Home was established with five children by some people from Spain in 2007 at Nankese in the Suhum area in the Eastern Region, but was later relocated to Apersua in the Yilo Traditional area also in the same region.

Today, the home has a total population of 63 children from three years to 18 years. It has a basic school from nursery to junior high school with eight voluntary teachers.

The spokesperson for the group who also doubles as the Nyewer Divisional Chief of the Yilo Traditional area, Nene Tetteh Alorwu Azza, who led the meeting with the management of the home, explained that the Royal Family was an association of chiefs and queens that came together and formed a family and their main purpose was to see to the welfare of people in the traditional area.

The group was also represented by the Development Chief of Yilo, Noryam Matse Kofi Odum of Okumuerya-Sawer, State linguist, Otsiame Dautey Otutu Mensah, the queenmother of Nyewer Division, Manye Nateki Azza, the queenmother of Kplade, Manye Yomle Narhgbedee and Manye Dede Laboki Aklorma.

He said as traditional leaders, it was very important to acquaint themselves with every organisation, societies and institutions among others in the traditional area and know their challenges so as to assist where necessary, hence the visit to the orphanage/home, which is located on their land in the traditional area.

Turning to the children at the home, Nene Azza said finding themselves at the home was not an accident, but it was designed by God and therefore they should not pity themselves but rather take advantage and make a meaningful life from the place.

‘’You are potential teachers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, among other professions and therefore don’t feel bad that you find yourselves in this home.

That is why we are here with all these items to support you in order for you to live a meaningful life.

Your being here is not the end of your life but rather your beginning.

Take advantage of the school here, learn, pass well and be what you want to be in future’’, Nene Azza emphasised.

The Development Chief, Kofi Odum, also pledged the group’s continuous support for the home as the welfare of the children at the home was paramount to them, stressing ‘’we shall continue to put smiles on your faces just like today and therefore what we need from you is to be obedient children and always take instruction from the management and your teachers here’’.
