Police have arrested 48-year-old Hanson Osei for allegedly running an unlicensed clinic from his home, where he is said to have been treating people for more than 12 years without any medical training.
The arrest, announced on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, has raised renewed concerns about the spread of quack medical practice in Ghana. Authorities say Osei openly admitted during interrogation that he had no formal education from a recognized medical school but had been providing medical care to unsuspecting patients.

The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana (MDC) has identified such incidents as part of a growing challenge in the health sector.
Between 2024 and the third quarter of 2025, at least four individuals have been arrested for practicing medicine without authorization, with more cases still under investigation.
The Council has also flagged a worrying trend of forged medical certificates submitted by individuals seeking clearance to operate as professionals.
In response, the MDC is collaborating with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to roll out a name tag and stamp verification system by 2026.
This initiative will make it easier for patients to confirm the legitimacy of healthcare providers before accepting treatment.
