The Ministry of Health is preparing to distribute over 24,500 pieces of medical equipment to health facilities nationwide, in anticipation of the Free Primary Health Care Programme scheduled to launch on April 15.
The announcement, shared on Facebook by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, highlights the government’s efforts to ensure that healthcare facilities are fully equipped to serve all Ghanaians, including the 35 per cent of the population not currently enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted that he spent Good Friday inspecting the equipment alongside the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, ensuring that all items meet the standards required for a smooth nationwide rollout.
The massive consignment includes:
- X-ray machines for diagnostic imaging
- Vital sign monitors to track blood pressure, temperature, and other key health indicators
- Glucometers for diabetes screening
- Baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators to provide critical neonatal care
- Patient monitors and infusion devices
- Laboratory analysers
- Delivery and hospital beds
- Ultrasound machines
“This is not just about launching a programme,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu said. “It is about preparing our health system to respond effectively, efficiently, and equitably to the needs of every Ghanaian.”
