Ghana has expressed interest in strengthening political and economic cooperation with Belarus following bilateral talks between the Foreign Affairs Minister and his Belarusian counterpart.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held discussions with the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxim Ryzhenkov, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, where both sides explored opportunities to deepen relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Mr Ablakwa indicated that Ghana is keen to translate the growing goodwill between the two nations into concrete outcomes that will benefit both economies.
He highlighted several priority areas for cooperation, including agricultural mechanisation, education, trade, and investment.
According to him, Belarus possesses significant expertise in agricultural mechanisation, a sector Ghana is eager to strengthen as part of broader efforts to improve productivity and modernise the country’s agricultural sector.
The Foreign Affairs Minister also stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries, proposing discussions on visa facilitation arrangements to make travel easier for citizens and businesses.
On his part, Mr Ryzhenkov reaffirmed Belarus’ commitment to expanding cooperation with Ghana, particularly in areas such as agriculture, industry, trade, and technology.
He further outlined a number of proposed agreements aimed at providing a stronger legal and institutional framework for bilateral relations. These include agreements on visa facilitation, customs cooperation, investment protection, and the establishment of a joint commission on trade and economic cooperation.
Both ministers also underscored the importance of high-level visits as a means of deepening diplomatic ties and accelerating collaboration between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Belarus, while working toward concrete partnerships that can support economic growth and development.
