A private maritime investor has approached the Office of the President with proposals to introduce ferry services from Tema, aiming to connect Ghana with other West African countries.

The service would transport passengers, vehicles, and cargo along the coast, offering an alternative to road transport.

President John Dramani Mahama confirmed that the investor has been referred to the Minister of Transport and the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority for follow-up.

He highlighted the initiative’s potential to boost trade and facilitate smoother cargo movement by avoiding delays and multiple road checkpoints.

The announcement came during the launch of the Tema Port Expansion Project, a strategic effort to enhance Ghana’s maritime infrastructure and regional trade capabilities.
