A Ghanaian man living in the United States has taken to social media to express his frustration and disappointment over the exorbitant import duties imposed by the Ghanaian government on vehicles purchased at low rates.
The video, which has since gone viral, highlights the financial struggles faced by Ghanaians trying to import vehicles and the subsequent loss of these vehicles to authorities if duties are not paid within a specified period.
In the emotional video, the man passionately explains how the high import duties make it nearly impossible for vehicle owners to clear their cars from the ports.
He laments that many end up losing their vehicles to the authorities, who then auction them off. He accuses Members of Parliament (MPs) and other politicians of exploiting the situation for their own benefit by purchasing these auctioned vehicles at lower prices, disregarding the hard work and sacrifices made by the ordinary Ghanaian who initially imported the car.
“The MPs and politicians buy these cars from the authorities because they believe they deserve better, ignoring the fact that a poor man went abroad to toil for the money to import the car,” he said, visibly upset.
He further criticized the greediness of these politicians, suggesting that their actions contribute to their downfall, both morally and in terms of public perception.
According to him, the greediness of these MPs is a major reason for their downfall. “Their greed is why they are dying,” he added, emphasizing the moral and ethical consequences of their actions.
