Ambassador-designate Mona Quartey and some of the Senior Staff of the Ghana Embassy to Italy, toured northern Italy from January 23 to 25,2026. The team included Deputy Head of Mission and Chancery, Kwesi Amuzu-Kpene; Investment and Tourism Officer, Kofi Bonsu; and Political and Economic Affairs Officer, Chris Ankrah.
They began the tour from the towns of Udine and Monfalcone, and concluded in Milan. In Udine, the team attended a presentation of PhD student projects in support of Ghanaian scholarship recipients at the University of Udine.
This engagement was made possible through the efforts of Prof Mills Heritage and culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the University of Udine and the University of Health and Allied Sciences in the Volta Region of Ghana. A young Ghanaian student, Francisca Adzaho, was one of the PhD candidates who gave a presentation to the Board of Supervisors.
Ambassador-designate Mona Quartey was warmly welcomed at the student presentations, where she delivered a brief speech expressing her gratitude to the university leadership and encouraging the students.
She also made herself available to other African students, engaging them in discussions on ways they could collectively make a positive impact in Ghana and across the continent.
Additionally, the team held in-depth discussions with the Head of International Student Relations and several professors on expanding the scholarship programme to include fields such as a diploma in engineering, mathematics, cybersecurity, and agriculture, in alignment with the Embassy’s key performance indicators towards mutual national economic development.
This significant meeting was arranged by Baron, who is responsible for the research support division of the Medical Department of Udine University.
The team concluded the visit to Udine by hosting a few of the students for lunch in the university cafeteria.
Following Udine, the team travelled to Monfalcone to visit Ghanaian workers who were trained at the Don Bosco Technical and Vocational Institute in Ghana ( Ashiaman and Sunyani), and are currently employed at Fincantieri, a shipbuilding company.
The Ambassador-designate and the Head of Chancery, Kwesi Amuzu-Kpene, assured the gentlemen of the full support of the Ghana Mission in Rome, reminding them that they are always welcome to reach out whenever the need arises. They were taken through an initial registration process of data collection by an officer of the Ghana Mission, Chris Ankrah. The workers were pleasantly surprised by the Mission’s visit and affectionately referred to Quartey as “The People’s Ambassador.”
They expressed their gratitude to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, for steering the country in the right direction.
The following day, the team continued the northern Italy tour to Milan, where they met with Ghanaian and African businessmen who are making significant contributions to the socioeconomic development of Ghana and improving the lives of our people. They shared their experiences, challenges, and perspectives on the way forward.
Ambassador-designate Quartey and her team warmly received them, assuring them of the Mission’s continued support and encouraging them to reach out and benefit from the resources at the embassy. A brief dinner reception was held to encourage discussions and familiarization.
