Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on President John Dramani Mahama to jealously guard Ghana’s peace and stability as he marks one year in office.

In a New Year congratulatory message, the NPP flagbearer hopeful described the mandate entrusted to President Mahama by the Ghanaian people as a sacred trust that must not be taken lightly. He urged the President to ensure that national unity remains a top priority.

Dr. Bawumia cautioned that Ghana’s reputation as a stable democracy in a region plagued by unrest should not be compromised. He said the country’s democratic and security foundations, which he described as strong, must be protected and built upon.

He also expressed concern about Ghana’s decline in the 2025 Global Peace Index, where the country dropped six places to 60th globally and from fourth to seventh in Sub-Saharan Africa. According to him, the rankings signal emerging security challenges that require urgent attention.
