GhanaWeb recently announced the nominees for the 2025 Edition of its annual GhanaWeb Excellence Awards.

These nominees have been categorised into more than 20 categories.

And as a way of bringing readers up to speed on who has been nominated, here are brief profiles of some of them.

All of the following have been nominated under the Humanitarians category.

Richard Nii Armah Quaye

Richard Nii Armah Quaye is a distinguished Ghanaian entrepreneur, investor, and business leader born on 21 March 1985 in Jamestown, Greater Accra Region, Ghana. He is the founder of Bills Micro-Credit (formerly Quick Credit Microfinance), a financial institution dedicated to empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through accessible microfinance solutions.

He also established Quick Angels Limited, Ghana’s first angel investment firm, which provides equity financing and strategic mentorship to startups and emerging businesses.

In April 2025, he stepped down as CEO and Board Chairman of Quick Angels and Bills Micro- Credit to focus on a broader vision as the President of RNAQ Holdings, the parent company overseeing his diverse business portfolio.

Through his ventures, Quaye has funded and scaled numerous Ghanaian businesses across sectors, including food production, healthcare, technology, and consumer goods. His investments have created thousands of jobs and significantly strengthened Ghana’s SME ecosystem.

His contributions have earned him several accolades, including recognition in the 40 Under 40 Awards, the Young Achiever Male Award at the 10th EMY Africa Awards, and a feature in Forbes for his impact on business innovation and community development. He has been nominated for Excellence in Humanitarian at the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards 2025

Dr Ato Brown

Dr Ato Brown is a Ghanaian leader in autism advocacy and care. He is the Co-Founder and Board Chair of Albert’s Haven Autism Foundation, a nonprofit organisation he established with his wife, Effuah Hagan-Brown. The foundation was inspired by their personal journey raising their autistic son and is dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and their families across

Ghana.

Under his leadership, Albert’s Haven has developed a respite centre in Aseseeso in the Eastern Region, providing a nurturing environment where autistic individuals, caregivers, and professionals can access support, training, and rest.

The foundation focuses on respite care, caregiver empowerment, community advocacy, and inclusive resources.

Dr Brown is also a strong advocate for expanding inclusive educational infrastructure beyond urban centres. He continues to champion dignity, accessibility, and opportunity for children with autism and their families throughout Ghana. He has been nominated for Excellence in Humanitarian at the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards 2025

Esther Agyemang Badu

Esther Agyemang Badu is a notable Ghanaian sports journalist, football manager, and communications strategist. She is widely recognized for her contributions to sports journalism and strategic communication across Africa, using her platform to promote football development, nurture young talent, and advance inclusion within sports.

In late 2025, she was honored at the Ghana Educators Prestige Awards in recognition of her professional excellence and mentorship contributions in both the sports and education sectors.

Through media and communication, she continues to amplify emerging talent and elevate the profile of African football on both continental and global stages. She has been nominated for Excellence in Humanitarian at the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards 2025

Selina Bentoom

Selina Bentoom is a passionate advocate for improved neonatal care, inspired by her personal experience as the mother of a surviving preterm child born in Africa. Her journey motivated her to champion stronger support systems and improved healthcare outcomes for mothers and newborns.

Professionally, she is an international development consultant specialising in innovative and sustainable health system programmes focused on maternal and newborn health. With over a decade of experience in human resources and development work, she has contributed to both national and international health initiatives.

Her leadership includes serving on the Advocacy and Communication Sub-Committee for National Newborn and Child Health under the Ghana Health Service (appointed in 2016). She also contributed to the 2018 WHO–UNICEF “Survive and Thrive” report, further demonstrating her commitment to advancing newborn health globally. She has been nominated for Excellence in Humanitarian at the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards 2025

Hawa Mutawakilu

Hawa Mutawakilu is a Ghana-based freelance journalist, food writer, and sustainable lifestyle advocate. Her work focuses on food, culture, peace, and sustainability, with a strong emphasis on promoting indigenous Ghanaian cuisine, plant-based nutrition, and mindful eating practices.

She contributes to media platforms including GBC Online, Angel Online, and OnuaOnline, and runs Hawa’s Sustainable Journal, where she integrates food journalism with ethical and ecological living.

Holding a Master’s degree in Conflict, Human Rights, and Peace Studies, she applies her academic background to explore themes of community resilience and peaceful coexistence.

In addition, she serves as a Clean Cooking Community Advisor, supporting sustainable energy initiatives and cultural preservation efforts, particularly among women and households. She has been nominated for Excellence in Humanitarian at the GhanaWeb Excellence Awards 2025.
