A Ghana Health Service (GHS) staff member has been arrested after loading suspected Indian hemp into an official vehicle.
While heading towards Ho from Dzolokpuita on January 23, 2026, suspect Godsway Kwaku Dogbey came across police officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), Police Intelligence Unit (PID), and the Regional CID who had mounted surveillance around Tarso Hotel.
A police statement reports that the driver failed to stop when the Police team signalled him to stop at the checkpoint, prompting a hot chase.
A search conducted on the vehicle revealed 26 maxi sacks containing 2,045 yellow oval shaped of wrapped compressed leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp with an estimated street value of GHC 1,022,500.00.
The suspect is in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
“Efforts are underway for the exhibit to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for examination and analysis.”
The Volta Regional Police Command assured the public of enhanced surveillance as part of the ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities in the region.
