File photo: According to a police statement, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, for alleged possession and transportation of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a vehicle registered to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
According to a police statement, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation on Friday, January 23, 2026, in the Volta Region. Officers intercepted the GHS-registered vehicle bearing number GV 2460-14 near Tarso Hotel in Ho after the driver failed to stop at a routine checkpoint at OLA Top.
The suspect ignored a stop signal, sped through a barrier, and attempted to evade officers, prompting a coordinated pursuit that culminated in his arrest and the vehicle’s impoundment.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered quantities of suspected narcotic substances. The exhibits and the GHS-registered vehicle have been retained as investigations continue.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing enquiries,” the statement added, as authorities work to establish the exact nature of the seized substances and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This development is part of intensified security operations aimed at tackling drug trafficking and related offences in the region.
Police are urging the public to report any information that may aid ongoing investigations.
