President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Dwumfour has urged authorities to stop using political influence in security service recruitment, stating that such interference weakens the country’s national institutions.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on March 18, the GJA President highlighted a worrying rise in political recruitment, arguing that it compromises the integrity of the service
“The GJA is also calling for the depoliticisation of recruitment into the various security establishments. This trend does not augur well for services that owe allegiance to the state, not to any political party or government. We therefore urge Ghanaians, particularly some Ministers of State, to desist from such unpatriotic acts,” he said
The Association is pushing for transparent hiring and warned that the move toward digital recruitment, though promising, must be approached with care. Mr. Dwumfour added that while shifting to digital tools and new tech offers chances to improve, these changes must be handled carefully.
“The Association further urges authorities to ensure that recruitment processes are fair, transparent, and efficient. The increasing use of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools must be carefully monitored to avoid bias or unintended exclusion of qualified applicants.”
As of March 2026, the government is implementing a plan to enlist 40,000 personnel into Ghana’s security agencies over the next four years.
