GNFS saves 11 bedrooms, GH¢11k in Akwakrom fire outbreak

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a domestic fire at Akwakrom in the Central Region, preventing major damage to a twelve-bedroom residential building.

The fire broke out on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at about 12:45 p.m., prompting a distress call to the Dunkwa-On-Offin Fire Station.

Upon arrival, firefighters found one bedroom fully engulfed in flames. Acting swiftly, they brought the fire under control and completely extinguished it by 1:11 p.m., preventing it from spreading further.

Thanks to the rapid response, eleven of the twelve bedrooms were saved, along with cash totaling GH¢11,060.00 belonging to three occupants. Only one bedroom and its contents were destroyed.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
