The Member of Parliament for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, has pushed back against demands for a complete halt to mining activities in Ghana. She believes that the country’s mineral resources are part of its natural blessings and should not be abandoned.
She argued that gold plays a crucial role in national development, and instead of calling for a shutdown, stakeholders should focus on transforming the mining sector into a more responsible and environmentally-friendly industry.
Cudjoe-Ghansah urged professionals in the mining field to assist in educating miners on modern and safe extraction methods. By adopting the right techniques, she maintained that Ghana can continue to benefit economically from its minerals without degrading the environment.
The MP admitted that mining has come with significant environmental challenges, particularly affecting water bodies and farmlands. However, she insisted that banning the industry entirely would not solve the problem. She promoted a balanced approach that protects communities and ecosystems while ensuring the country continues to gain from its natural resources.
