The final funeral rites for gospel artiste, Yaw Sarpong will take place on Saturday, May 9, at the Asuofua Town Park in Kumasi.

The funeral activities will begin with a wake-keeping on Friday, May 8, ahead of a lying-in-state on Saturday morning at the same venue.

The family’s prescribed dress code for mourners is red and black for Saturday’s burial service and white and black for Sunday’s thanksgiving service.

Yaw Sarpong, founder and leader of the Asomafo Band, is widely remembered for his immense contribution to Ghana’s gospel music industry.

His deeply spiritual music and distinctive style earned him admiration across generations and denominations, while his work with the Asomafo Band contributed to the growth of gospel music in Ghana.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the music industry, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2025.
