Celebrated gospel singer Frank Edwards has shared an emotional tribute to his mother on Mother’s Day, recalling a pivotal moment in his career when she intervened to prevent him from signing a music contract worth $320,000, an amount that today equates to over N492 million.
The singer, now a household name in the gospel music industry, credits his mother’s wisdom and spiritual insight for saving him from a deal that could have cost him control over his own music.
Taking to social media, Edwards recounted how, at an early stage in his career, a music group approached him with an offer that seemed too good to refuse.
The deal involved signing over the rights to his entire catalogue for a significant sum. At the time, the thought of such a large amount was tempting, especially for an artist still building his brand.
However, his mother had a different perspective and strongly opposed the agreement.
Despite being the same woman who had given him N150,000 to start his music studio, she remained firm in her conviction that the deal was not in line with God’s plan for her son.
She went as far as confiscating his international passport to prevent him from traveling abroad to finalize the contract.
Edwards admitted that at the time, he struggled to understand his mother’s reasoning. The difference between N150,000 and $320,000 seemed astronomical to him.
Yet, her words stuck with him: she told him to have patience and trust in God’s direction, insisting that the people offering the deal were “not of God.”
Looking back, the gospel artist now sees the wisdom in her actions. With years of experience and success behind him, he acknowledges that rejecting that deal was one of the best decisions he ever made.
He expressed immense gratitude for his mother’s unwavering faith and guidance, noting that none of her words had ever failed him.
Beyond just financial success, Edwards credited his mother with being a spiritual shield over his life and career, ensuring that he followed the right path. He described her as an “impenetrable wall of fire,” always seeking divine direction on his behalf.
The singer’s heartfelt tribute has resonated with fans, many of whom praised his mother for her foresight and spiritual discernment. Some even shared their own experiences of how parental wisdom had shaped their lives for the better.
“The very first time in my life years ago, I was to close a $320,000 deal from a group that wanted to almost own my entire catalogue. You said NO! And I quote you: ‘The 150,000 naira I gave you to start that studio is bigger than that money, just give it time. They are not of God.’
“In fact, you took my international passport away from me just to ensure I don’t travel to close that deal. I was laughing because I didn’t need to travel to close it, but then I listened to you. After you said that, I was thinking, ‘How is 150,000 Naira bigger than $320,000?’” he stated.
Years later, Edwards now fully appreciates his mother’s wisdom and spiritual guidance, admitting that her decision shaped his journey.
“Now I understand. There is so much to say! But like I said, this space is not enough! Happy Mother’s Day, mum!!! Thank you for everything. Thank you for an impenetrable wall of fire! Thank you for always telling me the mind of God about the things I’m doing. None of your words fell to the ground because you truly hear from God,” he added.
