Ghanaian gospel artiste Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko has made a dramatic reversal after previously suggesting that the deadly Obuasi military helicopter crash was tied to perceived ingratitude within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Kumasi-based musician had initially accused the party of neglecting him despite his active role in their campaign efforts, including creating a song to boost their election chances. Feeling sidelined, he implied that spiritual curses from himself and others wronged by the party may have contributed to the tragedy.
The comments sparked outrage across social media, with many branding them as inappropriate and insensitive while the nation was still mourning.
In a follow-up video posted online, Nyarko withdrew his earlier allegations and admitted they were made in a moment of personal frustration. He expressed regret for naming the President and other senior party officials, stressing that his previous remarks were baseless. He also appealed directly for their forgiveness, pledging to move past the incident.
The apology has drawn mixed reactions, with some commending his humility while others remain critical of the initial outburst.
