Zoomlion Ghana Limited has firmly addressed recent reports suggesting that its sanitation contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) was scrapped by the government. According to the company, no such cancellation occurred—rather, the contract ran its full course and expired as scheduled.
The arrangement in question, covering the Street Sweeping Programme under the Youth in Sanitation module, officially concluded in September 2024. This followed a prior extension from its initial end date in March of the same year.
Zoomlion emphasized that this was not a termination, but a natural expiration. The firm also highlighted its nearly two-decade partnership with successive governments on the YEA programme, describing it as proof of its consistent contribution to national development.
Looking ahead, Zoomlion expressed full support for the government’s plan to open sanitation contracts to competitive bidding. The company pledged to take part, citing its national coverage, innovative practices, and strong technical capabilities as key assets.
On accountability, Zoomlion noted its long-standing willingness to cooperate with oversight agencies, including undergoing audits by the Auditor-General. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and value-for-money services.
The company also welcomed plans to improve pay for sanitation workers, calling it a cause they’ve long championed. It stated that ensuring better wages and dignified work conditions for frontline workers remains a top priority.
Zoomlion further revealed its expanding footprint across Africa. So far, 24 countries on the continent are either in talks with the company, signing agreements, or exploring partnerships after observing its waste management success in Ghana.
With 36 treatment facilities operating nationwide—including 18 plants that turn organic waste into agricultural compost—Zoomlion described its achievements as unparalleled in Africa’s sanitation sector.
The company concluded by aligning itself with Ghana’s RESET development agenda, promising to contribute toward a cleaner, more resilient, and equitable future for the country.
