The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Shai-Osudoku in the Greater Accra Region, Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, has assured educational institutions in the district that the government is poised to improve on educational infrastructure and also ensure that quality education is provided.

“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government now knows the importance of education to the socio-economic development of our dear country and will ensure that what needs to be provided to enhance quality education will be provided. Our President, John Dramani Mahama, and his team will make sure that during his tenure in office, infrastructure is improved and quality education will not be compromised,” Mr Dordoe assured.

The DCE gave the assurance during his official visit to the Osudoku Senior High Technical School (OSUTECH) at Asutsuare last Monday.

Information

The visit aimed at ascertaining firsthand information about reports from the management of the school.

Mr Dordoe said, OSUTECH, being the only senior high school in the Osudoku Traditional Area, was dear to the assembly and that was why he and his entourage decided to pay a familiarisation tour of the school to confirm the challenges.

He said even though the administration wrote to the assembly, he and his team needed to come to the school and interact with the community.

“I, the DCE, have taken a keen interest in the school and, together with the assembly, we will do what is possible to improve the infrastructure and other resources that will enhance your effective teaching and learning. I want management to have a strategic plan for the school, which should follow from year to year,” he advised.

As a sign of the assembly’s commitment to the school, the DCE, on behalf of the assembly, presented an amount of GHC 20,000.00 to the school for the reroofing of the technical block, which got ripped off recently and also buying of furniture for the school’s dining hall.

In the same way, the assembly presented an amount of GHC 54,000.00 to defray water arrears that the school owed Ghana Water Limited for some years now.

Mr Dordoe urged the students to learn and make good use of the facilities available, as some of their requests would be fulfilled in the shortest possible time, adding that “Do not let our investments go to waste; make your parents and the government proud”.

He also promised that the assembly would help resolve the issue between the school and Shine Field, a toilet roll factory located near the school, for mutual understanding.

Durbar

At a durbar with the students and teachers, as well as the board members and parent-teacher-association executives, to welcome the DCE and his entourage, the headmistress of the school, Gifty Korantemah, said the current population of the school is 1,505 students made up of 792 boys and 713 girls, with 84 teaching and 42 non-teaching staff.

She said the vision of the school was for the impartation of knowledge and tailor-made skills for students to become self-reliant and instrumental to societal development.

That, she said, would be possible if the needed infrastructure and resources for effective teaching and learning were provided.

She enumerated a number of challenges the school was confronted with and appealed to the assembly to come to their aid in order for the school to perform its mandate of quality teaching and learning.

The Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school, Nene Tetteh Amoako IV, expressed gratitude to the DCE and his entourage for the assembly’s donations, which would solve some of the school’s challenges.
