The Mahama administration is set to commence the payment of gratuity arrears to over 2,000 military personnel under the implementation of Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129.
It follows the approval of the payment after a five-year-long impasse over the gratuity formula.
Key highlights of the approval are that all personnel who retired from November 2020 will receive arrears based on the new gratuity formula.
The payments will be made in four instalments between February 2026 and December 2027, with the first tranche being released on Friday, 27 February 2026.
A total of 238 officers and 2,155 soldiers will benefit, while all future retirements will be processed fully in line with CI 129, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said in a statement.
“This development brings closure to a matter that had remained unresolved since 2020 and ensures that affected personnel and all others who will retire subsequently receive their full entitlements at the correct rate.”
The Military High Command expressed appreciation to the Government for supporting this resolution.
