The government of Ghana has announced plans to contract independent experts in analysing all investigative reports over the death of a Latvia-based Ghanaian student identified as Nana Agyei Ahyia.

It comes after the government received a preliminary report from a fact-finding mission of the Ghanaian embassy in Germany, as well as a formal communication from the authorities of Latvia about the conclusion of the investigation into the death.

In a statement, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said he was planning on travelling to Latvia to engage the government and investigators.

“My imminent delegation to Latvia will include representatives of the family of Nana Agyei Ahyia,” he noted, adding that he engaged the family earlier on Monday to brief them on interventions carried out by the Ministry.

He stated that the next step will be determined by the outcome of the report.
