The government has announced plans to recruit 7,000 teachers nationwide to strengthen Ghana’s education sector and address staffing gaps, particularly in underserved communities.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, during a media briefing on Wednesday, April 1, where he outlined key details of the exercise.

According to the Minister, the recruitment portal will officially open on April 10, 2026, for eligible applicants.

“I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has received clearance and approval from the Ministry of Finance for the recruitment of teachers across the country. We will be recruiting at least 7,000 teachers. We want the process to be open, transparent, and competitive,” he stated.

He added, “Graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts may apply for placement as teachers nationwide. Priority will be given to those willing to serve in deprived and underserved areas.”

The initiative is expected to create employment opportunities for thousands of trained teachers while improving the distribution of educators across the country.

In recent years, concerns have grown over disparities in teacher deployment, with many rural and deprived areas facing acute shortages, even as trained teachers in urban centres struggle to secure placements.
