As global competition intensifies, there are growing calls for education systems to adapt to meet evolving demands.
It is in response to this that the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on Tuesday, March 17, relaunched its Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) to align with rapid technological advancements and global trends.
Speaking on behalf of the Education Minister at the relaunching ceremony for IPS at UPSA, Director of Tertiary Education, Dr. Emmanuel Newman, said professional education plays a critical role in preparing graduates for modern economies.
He added that countries that have made significant economic progress have done so by investing in strong professional and technical education systems.
Dr. Newman revealed that the reorientation of the IPS represents a strategic step toward ensuring professional education at UPSA, remains relevant, innovative, and responsive to the 21st century.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Harry Lawson Agbanu, noted that professional education is not just a supplementary component of higher education, but a strategic necessity.
He reiterated that the economies are demanding a new kind of professional, one who is not only academically grounded but also technically competent, ethically formed, digitally adaptable, and capable of continuous renewal, noting that professional education has therefore become more important than ever.
Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, emphasised the need to continuously review academic programmes to ensure relevance, reaffirming the university’s commitment to improvement and innovation.
The relaunch of the Institute of Professional Studies forms part of the university’s broader strategy to contribute to national development and professional advancement.
