Hohoe United’s relegation worries deepened after they were held to a 2-2 draw by fellow strugglers Vision FC in a tense Ghana Premier League matchweek 20 encounter at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Desperate for maximum points to halt a worrying slide, Hohoe made the perfect start when Sena Ati fired the home side into the lead just five minutes after kick-off, capitalising on early pressure to lift the mood inside the stadium.
The early breakthrough appeared to settle the hosts, who controlled large spells of the first half but failed to extend their advantage, a familiar shortcoming that would later prove costly.
Vision FC returned from the break with renewed intent and were rewarded in the 58th minute when Mohammed Sam-An restored parity, finishing clinically to punish Hohoe’s inability to kill off the contest.
The visitors grew in confidence and completed the turnaround in the 78th minute through Emmanuel Sanja, whose well-taken goal stunned the home crowd and put Vision on course for a crucial away victory in the relegation battle.
However, Hohoe refused to fold and pushed forward in search of a response. Their persistence paid off late on when Lawson Bekui struck in the 87th minute, rescuing a point and sparing the hosts from another damaging defeat.
Despite the late drama, the result did little to ease Hohoe United’s predicament. They remain rooted in the relegation zone and are now winless in their last seven league matches, with recurring defensive lapses continuing to undermine promising performances.
Vision FC, meanwhile, will take some encouragement from coming from behind on the road, though the dropped points mean they remain only narrowly above the drop zone as the battle at the bottom intensifies.
With both sides running out of room for error, Sunday’s draw underlined the fine margins and growing pressure facing Ghana Premier League’s relegation contenders.
