A private real estate company, GreenPark Properties, has donated food items valued at GH¢10,000 to the National Police Mosque in Accra to support Muslims observing the Ramadan fast and encourage acts of compassion and discipline during and after the holy month.
The donation, which included sugar, Milo, cooking oil, rice and tea bags, was presented last week by the General Manager of GreenPark Properties, Elsie Amoah, who said the company considered it important to support communities that rely on mosques for food and assistance during the fasting period.
She said the Ramadan fast provided an opportunity for Muslims to deepen their spirituality while strengthening peace and unity in society.
“Green Park is a socially responsible company, and we are using this Ramadan period to reach out to as many people as possible who depend on the mosques on the occasion of Ramadan for food to stay strong. It is as our hope that the spiritual enrichment from this fasting period will translate into positive output in our society,” she said.
Ms Amoah also conveyed greetings from the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of GreenPark Properties Limited, Evans Assiamah, and the company’s board and staff.
“On behalf of the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Greenpark Properties Limited, Mr. Evans Assiamah, our Board of Directors, and the entire Greenpark team, I wish you Ramadan Mubarak. Mr. Assiamah sends his warm greetings and apologies for not being here in person, but he stands fully with this gesture of support in this blessed month of fasting. Today, it is our honor to present this donation to support our Muslim brothers and sisters who are fasting and to assist the mosque in its activities during Ramadan. We pray that Allah accepts your fasting, prayers, and good deeds, and that this contribution benefits the community. Thank you.”
Receiving the items, the Deputy Imam of the National Police Mosque, Imam Abass Omar Abdul-Karim, expressed appreciation to the company, describing the gesture as a timely show of support.
He said the mosque currently provided meals and assistance to hundreds of people each day during Ramadan, making such donations crucial in sustaining its outreach activities.
“Here at the National Police Mosque, we feed over 800 fasting persons every day; we give them food, water, and special donations to special households. What we have received today will be added to our stock to reach out to most of the needy homes,” he said.
Imam Abdul-Karim said the gesture reflected the Islamic principle that encouraged those who had the means to support others in need.
He added that the items would be distributed to vulnerable individuals and families who genuinely required assistance rather than “those who are serving as professional beggars.”
The Deputy Imam further urged businesses to remember the less privileged when designing their corporate social responsibility programmes, stressing that such support helped strengthen communities and promote social harmony.
He also called on Muslims to maintain discipline and good conduct during the fasting period and beyond, noting that the spiritual lessons of Ramadan should guide behaviour throughout the year.
