The Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Ghana (ADAM-GH) has filed a writ at the Supreme Court, seeking clarification on whether President John Mahama is eligible to run for a third term in office.
The group’s Executive Secretary, Azubila Emmanuel Salam, stated that the writ is aimed at addressing the controversy surrounding Mahama’s potential candidacy.
Speaking at a press conference, Salam explained that the move is based on Article 66, Clauses 1 and 2 of the Ghanaian Constitution, which outlines the term limits for the President.
ADAM-GH believes that the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the law will help reduce misunderstandings and tensions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.
He said people are calling for President Mahama’s third term not because of his good performance, but due to selfish interests – they want to maintain their positions and benefits.
Stressing that this misunderstanding can threaten our democracy, making it necessary to approach the Supreme Court, the final arbiter, to clarify whether President John Dramani Mahama can run for a third term or not.
Salam emphasized that the writ is not driven by personal interests but rather a desire to uphold the Constitution and ensure the stability of Ghana’s democracy.
The group filed the case on December 23, 2025, and is calling on the Supreme Court to provide clarity on the matter.
ADAM-GH hopes that the Supreme Court’s decision will bring clarity and put an end to the speculation.
