Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has inaugurated ten Revenue Enhancement Teams as part of measures to strengthen revenue protection, improve operational efficiency, and ensure sustainable water service delivery across the country.

The teams were officially inaugurated on Tuesday, 4th February 2026, in Accra by the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Mutawakilu described the inauguration as a critical milestone in the company’s transformation agenda, stressing that it goes beyond a ceremonial exercise and reflects GWL’s commitment to financial sustainability, accountability, and improved service delivery.

He explained that the Revenue Enhancement Teams have been mandated to improve revenue collection, reduce customer indebtedness, detect and regularise illegal connections, verify meters, correct billing anomalies, and support the reduction of non-revenue water.

According to him, the decision to expand the teams from three to ten follows the success of a pilot phase launched in August 2025, which recorded significant gains in detecting illegal connections and recovering lost revenue.

Mr. Mutawakilu noted that each team will operate nationwide and will work closely with the commercial, technical, legal, and ICT units of the company, using data-driven monitoring and customer engagement strategies.

He further disclosed that the teams will operate in collaboration with National Security personnel to ensure the safety of staff during inspections and enforcement activities, following earlier incidents where officers were attacked in the line of duty.

“The teams are not meant to harass customers but to promote compliance, fairness, and accountability for the collective benefit of all,” he emphasised.

The Managing Director used the occasion to appeal to customers to pay their water bills promptly, noting that revenue collected supports water treatment, electricity, infrastructure maintenance, and service improvements.
