Founder of the Shea Butter Museum, Hamamat Montia, is set to be commissioned as Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador for Shea Butter.

This was announced by the Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, on Joy FM’s ShowbizAtoZ on February 7, 2026.

According to him, the move marks efforts to leverage cultural influencers for tourism amid efforts to showcase Ghana’s appeal to the world.

He added that musician Wiyaala is also being engaged.

“Our sister Hamamat will be commissioned as a tourism ambassador for Shea butter. Wiyaala has also been engaged,” he said.

Abeiku Santana credited the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Gzifa Gomashie, for reaching out, noting that promotional videos featuring these influencers will soon be ready.

Answering why the ministry hasn’t been using influencers and online celebrities to promote the country, Abeiku Santana cited the costs and availability of these influencers as challenges the ministry faces.

“We are doing it, but probably we are not using known influential people. It comes with a cost. So, you need to also negotiate with them and have some understanding,” he said.

He, however, praised some influencers who are committed to promoting Ghana to the world, adding that their readiness makes them easier to negotiate with.

“When you get such people, it makes the negotiation a bit easier and flexible for you because getting them; the availability, readiness to do that, and all that, is also sometimes a bit of a challenge. But we are doing it,” he noted.

Hamamat Montia came to the limelight after she and her Shea butter museum were featured on IShowSpeed’s livestream during his visit to Ghana as part of his Africa tour.
