Former Member of Parliament, Hawa Koomson, has spoken out following a violent incident at the Ablekuma North rerun, where she says she was physically assaulted. According to her account, the confrontation left her disappointed in the leadership of President Mahama and his running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
Recounting the chaotic events in an interview, she claimed her presence at the polling station was not intended to provoke violence. However, anticipating possible threats, she arrived prepared to protect herself if necessary.
As tensions escalated at the scene, she attempted to defend herself amidst the unrest but was ultimately overpowered and assaulted. The former legislator expressed frustration that, despite the severity of the incident, neither the president nor the vice presidential candidate had reached out to check on her condition in the aftermath.
The incident has drawn renewed attention to the volatile nature of electoral activities in certain constituencies and the perceived lack of concern from political leaders when violence affects individuals on the ground.
