He Used Police to Stop My Shows! – Davido Drops Shocking Details About His Father

Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about the dramatic turning point in his music journey, revealing that his breakout hit “Dami Duro” became the ringtone of then-President Goodluck Jonathan, a moment that helped change his father’s strict stance on his music career.

Speaking in a recent interview on Power 105.1 FM in the United States monitored by News and Vibes, the award-winning singer recalled how difficult it was to pursue music initially, especially with his billionaire father being strongly against it.

According to Davido, his father once went as far as using police and military personnel to shut down his concerts and arrest promoters, artists, and even anyone connected to his performances.

“But everything changed when ‘Dami Duro’ became a hit,” he said. “Someone told me it was the President’s ringtone. After that, people started convincing my dad to let me do music.”

The massive success of the song forced his father to take notice. That moment marked a major shift in their relationship.

Davido added that he eventually agreed to return to school, realizing that he could’ve handled things differently.

“At the time, I was scared of him. He was unapproachable,” he said. “But now we’re best friends. We talk about everything. He even comes to all my shows and is very involved in my business.”
