The Ministry of Health has extended its commendation to the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and other key stakeholders, particularly the whistle-blower, for their swift and coordinated response following the recent baby theft incident at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra.
An infant was allegedly taken from the facility on Tuesday, February 18, at Mamprobi in the Ablekuma South constituency.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, the Ministry expressed gratitude for the quick action taken by all involved parties in addressing the alarming incident, which has sparked widespread concern.
The Ministry further assured the public that measures are being taken to strengthen security at health facilities nationwide to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
In response to the incident, the Minister for Health has directed the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service to implement immediate and stringent security measures across all health facilities in the country.
These measures, aimed at safeguarding patients and ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals, will be enforced both day and night.
“Health facility administrators have been instructed to review and strengthen their internal security protocols without delay,” the Ministry stated.
The Minister has reiterated the government’s earlier directive requiring all health facilities across the nation to ensure the installation and proper functioning of CCTV surveillance systems.
This directive aims to enhance monitoring within facilities and improve accountability, further mitigating the risks of similar incidents occurring in the future.
The Ministry of Health has reassured the public of the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring patient safety and accountability within the healthcare sector.
“The Government remains firmly committed to safeguarding patients and ensuring accountability within the health sector,” the statement read, reflecting the administration’s proactive stance in responding to the incident.
The Ministry has called for calm, urging the public to allow the authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry.
