Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder, Mohammed Hussein, has issued a heartfelt apology following his heated altercation with referee Reginald Collins Amoah after the club’s 1–0 loss to Asante Kotoko.
Tensions ran high during the fiercely contested game when Mawuli Wayo’s equaliser for Hearts was ruled out for offside — a decision that infuriated the team’s supporters and players. After the final whistle, Hussein, visibly upset, approached the referee to protest. Police officers quickly stepped in to protect the officiating officials as Hussein attempted to confront the referee more aggressively but was restrained by security personnel.
In a statement shared on social media, Hussein admitted that his reaction was completely out of line, attributing his actions to frustration over what he believed were repeated fouls against him that went unpunished. He expressed remorse for his conduct, saying it had tarnished the image of the club and the Ghana Premier League.
He extended his apology to the Ghana Football Association, referee Reginald Collins Amoah, his teammates, Hearts of Oak supporters, and the broader football community, assuring them that he had learned a painful lesson.
Hussein pledged to handle future situations with composure and to uphold the values of professionalism and respect that define the sport. His apology comes as the GFA Disciplinary Committee is expected to review the incident and determine any possible sanctions.
