The government of Ghana has launched a high-level diplomatic offensive to ensure a transparent investigation into the suspicious death of Nana Agyei Ahyia, a Ghanaian student in Latvia.

According to a February 23, 2026, statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, it indicated that a specialised delegation led by the sector minister traveled to the Baltic nation to demand accountability and clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding Ahyia’s death.

The delegation was uniquely composed to provide both legal and technical oversight, including technical experts, forensic specialists and a pathologist.

A legal and diplomatic team including Ghana’s ambassador, consular officers from the Berlin embassy, and legal counsel have also been dispatched over the matter, the statement said.

The officials are reportedly accompanied by family representation; the deceased’s mother and aunt, to ensure the family remains at the heart of the proceedings.

In what is being seen as a diplomatic win, the delegation met with Latvia’s Foreign Minister, Minister for the Interior, and top-tier security chiefs.

The report added that the victim’s mother has formally submitted a statement to the Latvian authorities, with further evidence expected to be filed.

The Ghanaian government, according to a ghanaiantimes.com.gh report has demanded that the final investigative report be shared directly with the family.

The Latvian authorities have formally accepted this request, promising a transparent outcome.

Reiterating its commitment to the “truth and justice” for Nana Agyei Ahyia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the public to refrain from circulating unverified claims.

“The Ministry reaffirms the government’s commitment to seeking justice and urges the public to avoid speculation that could undermine the integrity of the ongoing investigations,” the statement read.
