The Minister for Works and Housing, Gilbert Kenneth Adjei, has announced the implementation of the Greenville District Housing Programme, a new government initiative aimed at increasing access to affordable housing for low- and middle-income households nationwide.

The scheme is structured as a district-based intervention intended to deliver decent and affordable accommodation, in keeping with the government’s decentralisation drive and overarching housing policy goals.

Mr Adjei made the announcement on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, while addressing the Government Accountability Series, noting that the programme has entered a pilot stage across eight districts, with each location earmarked to receive 20 two-bedroom housing units.

He indicated that the pilot projects are underway in South Dayi, Asuogyaman, Akyemansa, Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Atwima Kwanwoma, Dormaa West, Bole and Tamale, adding that construction in the selected districts is progressing at different levels.

According to the Minister, the housing units will be built using a blended construction method that combines compressed earth bricks with sandcrete blocks, a strategy aimed at enhancing sustainability, reducing costs and ensuring durability.

Mr Adjei further revealed that the official nationwide launch of the Greenville District Housing Programme is expected in the weeks ahead, describing the initiative as a significant step towards decentralising housing delivery and promoting social equity.

He added that the programme is expected to contribute meaningfully to improved living standards and greater inclusion across communities in all parts of the country.
